[UPDATED] Tom Cruise takes the lead this December in Jack Reacher, Christopher McQuarrie’s upcoming adaptation of the original novel, One Shot, by Lee Child, in the globally successful Jack Reacher series.

The first trailer landed back in the summer, and now the first international poster has made its way online, giving us an idea of what the US poster will likely look like.

You might remember that when the trailer first hit, the US version was preceded by the Russian-dubbed leak by two days, and it looks like the same thing has happened with the poster, so be sure to check back for the English language variant – though, naturally, this doesn’t require much translating.

“When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: “Get Jack Reacher!” So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.”

Cruise stars as the eponymous Jack Reacher, with support coming from the excellent Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo, Robert Duvall, and Werner Herzog.

With its release just a few months away, and this new poster debuting, I wouldn’t be surprised if the first full-length trailer lands sometime tomorrow, and we’ll have it for you as soon as it does.

Jack Reacher will be released in the US on 21st December, and will be followed shortly after in the UK on 26th December, the same weekend slot given to Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol last year. The film was set to open in Russia on 20th December, but this poster promises a 13th December release, so it will be interesting to see if Paramount bring its release forward elsewhere. More as we get it. For now, here’s the first international poster, which you can click to enlarge.

[Update: And now the UK version of the poster has hit, over at Yahoo Movies, which you can now see below.]
