It was recently revealed that upcoming FX series Legion will air on FOX in the UK, but at Comic-Con this evening, Marvel released the first trailer for the upcoming TV series. To say it looks trippy would be an understatement, but given the talent behind the scenes and the premise, that shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise (or be something to worry about).

Set to debut in early 2017, Legion is the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human. It introduces the story of David Haller, who since he was a teenager, has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Created by Fargo’s Noah Hawley, Legion stars Dan Stevens in the title role and has an impressive ensemble cast made up of Rachel Keller (Fargo), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) and Jean Smart (Fargo). It won’t be set in the X-Men movie universe though.

Despite that, the trailer below makes it clear that David is a mutant, so you have to wonder what kind of world this takes place in and what role those with superpowers play in it. That’s something Legion will hopefully address fairly early on, because despite the involvement of Marvel TV, bear in mind that this series isn’t set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe either!
