The first Power Rangers movie hasn’t even been released yet (it’s set to reach the big screen on March 24th, 2017), but Lionsgate are clearly confident that they have a franchise on their hands which will be as big for them as The Hunger Games has been over the past few years.

The studio told analysts today that they hope to do as many as “five, six or seven of them,” when asked about future Power Rangers movies, an ambitious plan when you take into account how everything from Ender’s Game to The Divergent Series has failed to take off.

Still, it’s easy to imagine Power Rangers being as big as Transformers or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles if handled well, but we’re just going to have to wait and see how it turns out!

Directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), the Power Rangers reboot has a long list of screenwriters which includes John Gatins (Kong: Skull Island), Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold), Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class), and perhaps most surprisingly, Max Landis (Chronicle). That’s a lot of different cooks in the kitchen!

Power Rangers stars Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games franchise) as Rita Repulsa.
