BAFTA-nominated writer-director Leos Carax (The Lovers on the Bridge) brought his latest film, Holy Motors, to Cannes this year to largely strong critical praise, winning the Award of the Youth at the festival back in May.

Craig described it as ‘Deliciously strange and so enjoyable’ amongst his short review round-up, and we could certainly see the emphasis on the strange and wondrous in the first trailer a few months ago.

Adding to the few things we’ve seen so far, the film’s Australian distributor, Icon Film Distributor, has now released the Australian poster and trailer for the film, ahead of its release there next month.

“From dawn to after nightfall, a few hours in the life of Monsieur Oscar, a shadowy character who journeys from one life to the next. He is, in turn, captain of industry, assassin, beggar, monster, family man.

He seems to be playing roles, plunging headlong into each part… but where are the cameras? Monsieur Oscar is alone, accompanied only by Céline, the slender blonde woman behind the wheel of the vast engine that transports him in and around Paris. He’s like a conscientious assassin moving from hit to hit. In pursuit of the purely beautiful act, the mysterious driving force, the women and ghosts of past lives. But where is his true home, his family, his rest?”

Denis Lavant (The Lovers on the Bridge) returns once more to work alongside Carax, with Edith Scob (Summer Hours), Eva Mendes (We Own the Night), and Kylie Minogue (Moulin Rouge!) supporting.

Holy Motors will be released here in the UK on 28th September, following its Australian release on 23rd August. As yet, no word on a US release, but Indomina Releasing have acquired the rights, and will likely release it before the year’s end too. For now, enjoy this new trailer and poster. And as usual with the latter, you can click to enlarge.
