The Guillermo Del Toro produced Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark seems to be being moderately but not exuberantly received by the critical fraternity, with perhaps its increasingly well-worn tropes of gothic buildings, creaks and bumps in the night, alert and aware children and aloof and unseeing parents turning many off.

What it can’t be accused of though is a lack of style, especially with its advertising campaign, which has given us a thoroughly inventive and therefore altogether welcome new poster, making up the title from an assortment of materials and household items.

The US and most of continental Europe have already had the film, with us humble folks in the UK having to wait until this coming Friday. Spare a thought for the Netherlands and Italy though, who won’t get it until late November and early January respectively. Poor things.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
