Marvel are certainly pulling out all the stops in their quest for world domination. And not just over their big screen presence but the small screen as well with their comic book adaptations which have a firm home at streaming service Netflix. The next project coming in the form of Cloak and Dagger, even though not released until next year, has a brand new trailer.

Based on the comic of the same name the story centres on the young adults, Tandy Bowen/Dagger (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson/Cloak (Aubrey Joseph), two teenagers from different backgrounds who are coming to terms with their interracial relationship as well as their with newly acquired superpowers – Tandy can emit daggers of light, while Tyrone can engulf others in darkness – even as they fall in love.

The trailer which is full of teenage angst and drama gives us our first introduction to the young couple incorporating a sexually dark atmosphere with a slightly twisted coming-of-age theme.

Also included in the cast are Andrea Roth as Tandy’s mother, Melissa; Gloria Reuben as Tyrone’s mother, Adina; Miles Mussenden as Tyrone’s father, Michael; Carl Lundstedt as Tandy’s criminal boyfriend Liam; James Salto as Bernard Sanjo, a friend of Tyrone’s; and J.D. Evermore as Connors, described as a detective “with an intimidating secret”. The series comes from the creative mind of Joe Pokaski, who served as a writer and executive story editor on Tim Kring’s Heroes.

The synopsis for the Freeform TV series reads Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from different backgrounds; acquire superpowers while forming a romantic relationship. They soon realise that their powers work better when they are together, “but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger will be available from 2018.
