There has been talk of a Logan’s Run remake for years, but it’s now finally picking up steam with writer/producer Simon Kinberg. The original 1976 sci-fi movie was an adaptation of William F. Nolan’s 1967 novel, and Warner Bros. has been looking to get a new version off the ground since as far back as 2000.

Over the years, everyone from Alex Garland, Christopher McQuarrie, Bryan Singer and Nicolas Winding Refn have been attached in some way to write or develop the project, but even Ryan Gosling being attached to star in 2010 didn’t get the movie made. Things now finally seem to be moving in the right direction though.

Fantastic Four, Star Wars, and X-Men writer/producer Simon Kinberg is writing the story and treatment for Logan’s Run, and he joins Joel Silver as a producer. A writer for the screenplay has yet to be found.

Logan’s Run is set in a future society where people are executed upon reaching a certain age and those that seek to avoid their fate are deemed “Runners.” The protagonist, Logan, is one of those executioners, known as the Sandmen, who ends up on the run after he becomes sympathetic with members of an underground railroad of Runners. The novel is widely credited as inspiring the likes of The Maze Runner and Divergent.
