If you had to write a list of the people most likely to inadvertently spill one of Marvel’s many secrets, Kevin Feige would no doubt be very far from the top of that. However, in a recent interview to promote Ant-Man, the Marvel Studios President referred to Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

That instantly led to a lot of chatter on social media about whether or not that was the official title for the sequel to the 2014 box office hit, and so James Gunn would later take to Facebook to confirm that it is.

“Yes, the official title of the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Kevin Feige let the title slip while doing Ant-Man press, which I’m really happy about because God knows I’ve let more than one thing slip accidentally while chattering away on this FB page. Also, hats off to some intrepid fans who figured out the title a couple of days after I posted the cover page. More than one person guessed ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? – I wanted so badly to give you props at the time, but knew I had to wait.”

That’s not the Guardians of the Galaxy: Planet Hulk title some fans were hoping for, but it is utterly perfect, especially as the second volume of Star-Lord’s “Awesome Mix” is going to be a huge part of the sequel.

Gunn meanwhile appropriately summed up the reaction to Feige letting the title slip at the end of his post: “For Kevin to mess up, Haha.” Now if only he would accidentally reveal the villain of 2017’s Spider-Man…
