Ben-Affleck-in-Gone-GirlAdapting one of the most talked-about books to emerge in recent years, David Fincher has taken on an impressive challenge with Gone Girl, and it’s understandable that the Oscar buzz is already surrounding the film.

Led by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, the first teaser trailer for the dramatic thriller landed back in the spring, teasing a handful of the scenes that will be well-known to readers of the original novel. And after recently dropping four new teaser posters, Fox is giving us another look with the theatrical trailer, as promised.

GONE GIRL – directed by David Fincher and based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn – unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

Affleck and Pike are joined by one of the best casts of the year, starring alongside Carrie Coon, Emily Ratajkowski, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, Scoot McNairy, Boyd Holbrook, Lola Kirke, Casey Wilson, David Clennon, Lisa Banes, Sela Ward, and Missi Pyle.

Fincher is directing from a script by author Gillian Flynn, who has revealed that she’s written a whole new third act in the process of adapting her original novel for the screen. You can just smell the Best Adapted Screenplay nod already.

Gone Girl will be released in the US and UK on October 3rd, giving it a prime position for a run at the Oscars that Fox is undoubtedly eyeing here.
