There was some big news out of Legendary’s Comic-Con panel today. First of all, Gareth Edwards confirmed that he will return to direct a sequel to Godzilla, though no release window was revealed.

Edwards will of course be busy with one of the secret Star Wars spin-off movies for the next couple of years, but the fact that he will return to helm the follow-up to his reboot of the franchise is great news.

However, those of you who thought that the movie wasn’t quite action-packed enough will be glad to hear that some familiar monsters will be joining Gozdilla in the sequel. Those have been confirmed as Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah! There’s also talk of others appearing, but this is one heck of a good start.

That wasn’t the only surprise Legendary had though. They revealed that Skull Island will be released on November 4th, 2016. It will focus on that well-known location and the origins of King Kong.

No cast or director have been revealed. The last movie featuring the iconic monster was 2005’s remake by Peter Jackson, but it appears as if this movie will skip that familiar story and will instead focus more on King Kong and the other inhabitants of the island. A brief teaser was shown for both of these projects.

Unfortunately, as is so often the case with footage screened at Comic-Con, neither has been released online. Godzilla 2’s mentioned the monsters listed above, while Skull Island’s featured a brief look at King Kong.
