The trailer and poster for The Legend of Tarzan have been released today, giving us our first look at the movie which stars Alexander Sarsgard as the titular hero and Margot Robbie as Jane. The impressive cast also includes Djimon Hounsou as Chief Mbonga, Samuel L. Jackson as George Washington Williams, and Christoph Waltz as the villainous Captain Leon Rom.

Rather than retelling Tarzan’s origin story, Legend finds John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, a decade removed from his home in the Congo and fully entrenched as a British gentleman in 1880s Victorian London, with his beloved wife Jane (Margot Robbie) now by his side.

While the movie is going to explore his early days in flashbacks, Tarzan is eventually forced to return to the Congo when Jane and some of his other friends are put in serious danger.

Interestingly, we never actually get to hear Tarzan speak in the trailer. In fact, we don’t even get a proper look at him, an odd decision considering the fact that we’ve been introduced to this take on the hero in the official images released yesterday and the poster below! Still, it definitely heightens the anticipation to see more footage from the movie.

Alas, a lack of screentime for Tarzan here only serves to highlight what is clearly some unfinished CGI. It borders on looking like a video game in places with photorealistic effects in others! Still, it definitely appears as if David Yates is going to bring a lot of action to the table with this movie, and so The Legend of Tarzan should be well worth keeping an eye on…
