We have two big rumours here for you to digest about a couple of upcoming female-led superhero movies, and they reveal some potentially very interesting new details about both of the ambitious sounding projects.

First off, Wonder Woman (which is set to be released in 2017) is apparently planned as the first in a trilogy. That’s hardly a surprise these days, but what is a shock is the idea to set the first instalment in the 1920s!

The first half of the movie apparently takes place on Wonder Woman’s home island of Paradise Island until a man arrives and she’s introduced to a world where women have only just got the vote. The sequel would jump to the 1930’s/40’s with World War II raging,  while the third instalment would be set in the present.

That’s a bold move, but it’s one which worked for Captain American and it would certainly differentiate Wonder Woman’s movie from other upcoming superhero releases and Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel.

Strictly a rumour for now of course, as is this next one. Spider-Man obviously wasn’t announced as becoming a member of the Marvel Cinematic this week, and one of the many ideas Sony are currently passing around in a bid to rejuvenate the franchise would focus on a female team of heroes from Spidey’s world.

Some likely candidates of course are the Black Cat, Spider-Girl, and Silver Sable, but no names were mentioned in the report, so that’s pure speculation on our part. We do know that Sony are planning a female-led spin-off however, and this would be a potentially interesting direction to take it in…
