Marvel have today announced that Inglorious Basterds and Rush star Daniel Bruhl has been added to the cast of Captain America: Civil War. Despite the fact that they issued the press release, there’s no mention from the studio of who the German actor will be playing in the Joe and Anthony Russo helmed threequel, though it being kept a secret could be an indication that it’s someone well known to comic book fans.

However, the trades have since weighed in with what they’ve heard from their sources, and it’s now widely being reported that Bruhl has been cast as one of the villains in the movie. His German heritage make characters like Baron Zemo and the Red Skull obvious suggestions, but there is a small twist in the tale!

With Frank Grillo’s Crossbones expected to be the main bad guy in Captain America: Civil War, it’s believed that Bruhl will reprise this mysterious role as the lead villain in another movie set to be released by Marvel in 2016; Doctor Strange! That makes who he could be playing a lot harder to figure out of course.

For now though, the BAFTA and Golden Globe nominated actor joins a cast which includes Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther).

“With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes, producer and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said in a statement released today. Captain America: Civil War is set to be released on May 6th, 2016!
