Acclaimed filmmaker Gareth Evans, the director of The Raid and The Raid 2, has announced his next project in the form of The Apostle and may have found his leading man.

Described as a “period revenge thriller”, The Apostle follows a man who has to try to free his sister from a religious cult who have her on a remote island. Evans is writing and directing the film.

For the lead, Dan Stevens is in talks to join the film. Stevens, who shot to fame in projects such as Downton Abbey and Adam Wingard’s The Guest, is set for a big year in 2017 with his starring role alongside Emma Watson in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast which is due for release on March 17th, 2017.

In addition, Stevens leads the cast for X-Men spin-off show, Legion, which also airs next year.
