D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) has been hired to direct Beat the Reaper, an adaptation of Josh Bazell‘s novel of the same name.

Beat the Reaper is set up at 20th Century Fox, and may star Leonardo DiCaprio, who is also producing the film through Appian Way production company.

Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Solitary Man) wrote the adapted screenplay.

Beat the Reaper centers on a former mobster who, after years in witness relocation, has become a doctor. But his old life catches up with him and it’s a race against the clock as he tries to cover up his old life while saving his own ass from the goon squad that previously thought him dead.

Caruso’s latest directorial feature, I Am Number Four, opens in the UK on February 23.
