It is a truth universally acknowledged that sticking Bryan Cranston in a film is a sure-fire way to make it watchable. This Christmas the Breaking Bad star brings his gritted teeth and barely-concealed rage to John Hamburg’s generation gap/Father of the Bride comedy Why Him? opposite James Franco.

James Kleinmann sat down with the pair to talk about their new film, which also stars Megan Mullally, Zoey Deutch and Keegan-Michael Key. The chemistry between the pair is evident here, with Cranston in particular in a very engaging (i.e. very silly) mood, which is always a joy.

Why HIm Bryan CranstonDuring the interview Franco also confirmed exclusively to us that he has a small role in Ridley Scott’s new Alien film, Alien: Covenant. Though his reaction isn’t one of ebullient joy he gamely talks to us a little on what the film series means for him. Cranston, of course, jumps at the chance to add a little commentary to the proceedings.

Here’s the full interview after a well meaning synopsis for you all.

Why Him is out on Boxing Day 2016.

Why Him Movie Synopsis?

Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry—and Ned’s panic level—escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.
