Agent Carter

It’s a good time to be a fan of comic books and TV shows as just days after Gotham was ordered to series and the first trailer was released (which you can check out by clicking here), a number of other small screen adaptations have been given the green light.

Firstly, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed for a second season, despite ratings declining drastically since the Joss Whedon helmed pilot. However, steady numbers and an increased positive response to the series since the Captain America: The Winter Soldier tie-in may have helped get it a second year, so fans of the series should be very happy to hear that it will return.

Meanwhile, American network ABC have also decided to give Agent Carter a series order. The World War II set show picks up after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger and will see Hayley Atwell reprise her role as Peggy from that movie. Dominic Cooper is also expected to star.

It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Agent Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.

FlashGoing back to DC Comics and there’s a lot of good news of that front as well. The CW (who also make shows like Arrow and Supernatural) have given the go ahead to The Flash, a series which stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, a young forensic scientist who through a freak accident  is given the power of super speed, which transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive.  They’re also moving ahead with iZombie, a show focusing on a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. But with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head.

Finally, NBC have given Constantine a series order as well. It’s not related to the movie of the same name, but does feature the same character. This time he’ll be played by Welsh actor Matt Ryan instead of Keanu Reeves. The longline and first official image from the show can also be found below.

Based on the wildly popular comic book series “Hellblazer” from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) specializes in giving hell… hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight — or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths, “True Blood”), the daughter of one of Constantine’s oldest friends, he’s reluctantly thrust back into the fray – and he’ll do whatever it takes to save her. Before long, it’s revealed that Liv’s “second sight” — an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences — is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.
