This morning Douglas Booth and Ophelia Lovibond announced the nominations for the 2016 British Independent Film Awards, with Ken Loach’s I, Daniel Blake leading the way with seven nominations. Dave Johns and Hayley Squires, two of the film’s laeds were both nominated as Most Promising Newcomer and Best Actor and Actress respectively. Loach, of course, is up for Best Director.
It’s a fine result for a timely film. That it is just one of the thirty-two films British films nominated shows a breadth of talent working in independent film today. Rachel Tunnard‘s Adult Life Skills was also deservedly recognised with Tunnard herself up for the Douglas Hickox Award for a director’s debut.
