To celebrate the release of White Boy Rick, which opens in UK cinemas this week, we sat down with its director Yann Demange to chat about the story, working with Matthew McConaughey and finding his lead.
Fresh from his feature film debut in 2014 with the critically-acclaimed film ’71, Demange has taken his time in finding the right project and talks in our interview about what drew him to the true story of Rick Wershe Jnr, the youngest police informant in 1980’s Detroit. In addition, Demange told us about finding his lead, Richie Merritt, in the strangest of places as well as assembling his stellar cast including McConaughey, Bel Powley, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Brian Tyree Henry and Bruce Dern.
