X-Men:-Days-of-Future-Past-Professor-XBryan Singer’s return to the X-Men franchise next year with X-Men: Days of Future Past is naturally something we’ve been excited about for a while. Especially since the storyline is set to bring together the cast of both the original X-Men films and X-Men: First Class.

Having taken the movie with them to Comic-Con over the weekend, Fox have now released the first two character posters online, giving us a look at Magneto and Professor X, past crossing future.

The official synopsis for the movie remains under wraps, but we know the film is based on the comic book arc of the same name, which follows the following plot:

Days of Future Past is a classic storyline that unfolded in two issues of Marvel Comics’ Uncanny X-Men in 1981, from writer Chris Claremont and artists John Byrne and Terry Austin. The story was partially set in an alternate future where surviving mutants have been penned in concentration camps, giant robots called Sentinels patrol America, and most of the X-Men have been hunted and killed. In the present day, the X-Men were forced to stop a key event from unfolding in order to keep that future from occurring.

The fantastic cast is led by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, and plenty more.

Singer is directing from a script penned by Simon Kinberg, Matthew Vaughn, and Jane Goldman.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to be released in 3D on 22nd May, 2014 here in the UK, with its US release date following a day later on May 23rd. We can’t wait. For now, here are the first character posters, featuring McAvoy, Fassbender, Stewart, and McKellen.
