Latifah stars and executive-produces The Equalizer, which follows a gender-flipped version of agent Robert McCall, originally played by Edward Woodward in 1985 and later played by Denzel Washington in the film franchise.
Latifah, previously teased a potential meeting of her character and that of Washington’s saying “That’s up to D” adding, “I’d be more than happy to connect with him on any level”. After the success of the Equalizer3 film which earnt $191 million worldwide on a budget of $70 million, there are two more sequels planned for the franchise, so a potential crossover may still be on the cards.
McCall presents to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. But to a trusted few, she is The Equalizer- an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who’s also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.
