The build-up for Season 2 of Westworld has been ramped up with a whole new set of images released via Entertainment Weekly.

Season 2 is looking to expand the series scope by looking further outside the park. Despite the hosts breaking free of their programming, some aren’t as willing to go so far as revolution like Dolores is trying to convince them to. Additionally along with forces trying to stop them, including the new ‘drone hosts’ used for more military applications, The Man in Black (Ed Harris) has a new mission in the park.

Executive producers and showrunners, Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan opened up about their vision for the new series and how it goes completely “nuts”

The scale of season 2 is just nuts, literally right out of the gate. It’s so much more expansive, it makes the first season look like a gentile kitchen drama.

The leashes are off,” says Lisa Joy. “The hosts are now literally able to define themselves. But the question is: How far are you willing to go until you become a reflection of the evil you’re trying to fight?

Nolan went on to contribute that they wanted to show how the series is moving ahead “We want to feel like the show is rocketing ahead. The first season was a journey inward, this is a journey outward. It’s a search for what else is in the park, and what else is beyond the park.”

In the season finale of the sci-fi thriller, the theme park’s hosts were set free from their behavioural restraints which gave way to a revolution of the human zookeepers and the park’s guests.

Westworld returns to screens on April 22nd.
