Wesley Snipes has joined Eddie Murphy on the cast of the sequel to the 1988 classic ‘Coming To America’.
Snipes is set to play General Izzi, who rules a neighbouring country to Zamunda and is a new character for the story. Also joining the cast are Leslie Jones, whose role is being kept under wraps, Kiki Layne who will play Akeem’s daughter and rapper Rick Ross. Original cast members James Earl Jones and Paul Bates will be returning. Jones, of course, will reprise his role as Akeem’s father, King Jaffe Joffer, with Bates as royal servant Oha.
The sequel is set 30 years after the original which saw Murphy as Prince Akeem and his trusted sidekick, Arsenio Hall’s Semmi descend on Queens, New York from Zamunda in order to “sow his wild oats” before committing to an arranged marriage. He subsequently falls in love with the owner of McDowells fast food joint’s daughter.
The follow-up will see Murphy return as Prince Akeem about to become the King of Zamunda when he discovers he has a long-lost son in Queens and sets off to find him.

Arsenio Hall and Jermaine Fowler co-star in the film which is helmed by Craig Brewer.
The sequel will reunite the trio of Murphy, Snipes, and director Craig Brewer, who worked together on the upcoming biopic ‘Dolemite Is My Name’, which tells the tale of provocative stand-up comedian Rudy Ray Moore.
‘Black-ish’ Creator Kenya Barris alongside Murphy and Kevin Misher will produce the film.
The film is set for a December 18th 2020 release.
