Here’s a rather fantastic featurette made by the fabulous chaps from Little White Lies. If you’re not familiar with the magazine, it’s very much one you should be checking out. Where as Empire and Total Film are the daddies when it comes to movie magazines in the UK, Little White Lies never fail to impress with the design work that they put into their cover designs and the graphics throughout their magazine making it by far the classiest in the business and if you don’t already subscribe, you really should!

In this featurette, we get to see the work that has gone into making their latest issue #42 of the magazine for John Hillcoat’s new movie called Lawless starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy and Josh Brolin.

Here’s he info from the YouTube video:

In a hearty salute to the self-made ‘moonshiners’ at the centre of John Hillcoat’s downhome bootlegging caper, Lawless — the cover movie of Little White Lies issue 42 — our magazine design team decided to distill their own process of creation and kick it old school by returning to reliable old wood and ink.

Check out this video of the painstaking printing process as every minute pictorial detail is carefully chipped into a slat of Japanese Ply wood. And if this wasn’t enough, the score the video has been specially composed by LWLies artistic director Paul Willoughby from sounds recorded during the wood-carving process. LWLies 42 is on shelves now, and a fine vintage it is too.

If you’re quick, you can also now buy the Lawless woodcut prints from their site here.
