A film based on our childhood favourite toy, Lego, has officially been given the go-ahead this week, and is on track for a 2014 release, reports Variety.

Writers and directors of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, are working on the film which Warner Bros. has this week given the greenlight for. It will be an animation/live-action hybrid, which is said to be an action-adventure set in the Lego world.

The animation studio Animal Logic (Happy Feet) will be handling the visuals, whilst Robot Chicken director Chris McKay is to co-direct. Who better would you want to bring the magic of Lego alive?

Lord and Miller, who are currently finishing their live-action debut 21 Jump Street, have also apparently made several trips to Denmark to work with Lego execs on the concept, with casting for the characters beginning in January.
