A fresh trailer has arrived for ‘Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day,’ and it sparkles with charm, intellect, and a rebellious refusal to follow the heart’s usual script. Brought to life by Vue Lumiere.
Set in the twilight glow of the Edwardian era, the film follows Katharine Hilbery, played by Haley Bennett, a fiercely independent astronomer who treats romance like an inconvenient comet she’d rather not track. While society nudges her toward marriage, Katharine keeps her gaze fixed firmly on the stars.
The trailer paints a vivid portrait of a world in transition, where intellectual ambition collides with tradition. Against the elegant backdrops of London and Cambridge, we glimpse a society balancing on the edge of change, shaped by scientific discovery and the rising tide of the suffragette movement.
Katharine’s orbit is filled with an eclectic ensemble. Jack Whitehall plays her ever-present confidant, while Jennifer Saunders and Timothy Spall appear as her well-meaning but tradition-bound parents. Sally Phillips and Misia Butler bring family dynamics into sharper focus as Cousin Joan and the rebellious Cyril, while Elyas M’Barek steps in as radical editor Ralph Denham. Meanwhile, Lily Allen injects bold energy as Mary, a witty and fearless suffragette who refuses to whisper when she can roar.
Adapted by Justine Waddell and directed by BAFTA nominee Tina Gharavi, the film leans into the novel’s ironic humour and emotional restraint.
