Marc Webb looks to have done a fantastic job behind the camera, moving into new superhero territory after making his feature directorial debut with 2009’s (500) Days of Summer.
Along with Garfield and Stone in the leads, the film will also star Rhys Ifans as The Lizard, along with Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Denis Leary, C. Thomas Howell, Irrfan Khan, and of course Stan Lee himself.
“The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.”
Given Webb’s past collaborations with such a great range of (some of my favourite) bands, I’m hoping that the film will be getting a soundtrack to match the awesomeness of the film itself – a bit of Yellowcard, Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, Taking Back Sunday, and Green Day, for example, would not go amiss. (And wouldn’t be unprecedented either, given that Yellowcard and Taking Back Sunday both had songs in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.)
The Amazing Spider-Man will be released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on 3rd July (a day earlier than expected) in the UK and US, so make sure you clear your schedules for the first weekend of July. It’s going to be awesome. You can catch up on all our coverage for the film right here. And as usual with these great new promo images, you can click to enlarge.
