HBO has released the second full trailer for the third season of True Detective with Mahershala Ali at the forefront of the story.

Set in the heart of the Ozarks, a disturbing crime occurs and a mystery that deepens over decades plays out in the three separate time periods.

Ali will portray Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas with Stephen Dorff as his partner. Carmen Ejogo plays Ali’s wife and Scoot McNairy will play Tom, a father who suffers a terrible loss that ties his fate to that of two state police detectives over 10 years.

Jeremy Saulnier (“Green Room,” “Blue Ruin”) will co-direct alongside series creator Nic Pizzolatto with Pizzolatto penning all the episodes except for the fourth episode which he’s co-writing with “Deadwood” creator David Milch.  Pizzolatto, who also serves as showrunner, executive produces with Saulnier and returning executive producers Scott Stephens.
