The new teaser for The Runaways has been unveiled by MTV and director Floria Sigismondi has certainly got an eye for the chaos and raw power of the iconic 70s band.
Telling the rollercoaster ride of the pioneering punk group the film will be playing at the Sundance festival in January and the teaser below gives us a good look at Dakota Fanning as vocalist Cherie Currie and, emerging from the Twilight, Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett. Michael Shannon plays their manager, Kim Fowley and it is his presence as a punk era svengali that looks to be the dramatic centre of this film.
It’s a cool trailer, I got a Velvet Underground vibe from seeing it and if the performances of Fanning and Stewart can match the energy and bombast of The Runaways’ music then we’re in for a treat.
