To-the-Wonder-US-PosterTerrence Malick’s latest feature, To the Wonder, has been dividing critics once more ever since its debut at Venice debut last year. It has polarised critics in the months since, and will likely continue to do so as it opens across the world this year.

I saw the film out in Toronto last September and thought it was rather beautiful and brilliant. But on the other hand, Ian saw the film at the same festival – you can read his review here – and came away with a very different impression.

The first trailer officially debuted just before Christmas last year, ahead of its UK release last month. And now EW have debuted the first US poster ahead of its release across the Atlantic in April.

“The film is centred on Neil (Ben Affleck), a man who is torn between two loves: Marina (Olga Kurylenko), the European woman who comes to United States to be with him, and Jane (Rachel McAdams), the old flame he reconnects with from his hometown. Neil’s doubts about his life and loves are reflected in the crisis of faith experienced by Father Quintana (Javier Bardem), who only sees pain and the loss of hope in the world.

In TO THE WONDER, Malick explores how love and its many phases and seasons — passion, sympathy, obligation, sorrow, indecision — can transform, destroy, and reinvent lives.”

Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams, and Javier Bardem make up the fine leading quartet, and each give impressive leading performances here.

Malick is once more directing from his own script, with past collaborators Sarah Green (The Tree of Life, Take Shelter) and Nicolas Gonda (The Tree of Life, Knight of Cups) producing.

To the Wonder is currently on wide release across the UK, as of late February. Its US release date is set for 12th April, leaving just a few more weeks before it arrives in theatres. For now, here’s the first poster for its Stateside release.
