Timesplitters and Star Wars Battlefront were the two big last-gen franchises that I always wanted to see hit this current generation of consoles. Considering the on-line functionality of modern consoles it seems these games would fit perfectly with the modern gamers needs with plenty of online modes and maps to play with friends.

Free Radical, former Timesplitters developers were purchased by Crytek in 2009 to become Crytek UK, so the status of the long rumoured Timesplitters 4 has been somewhat in limbo. The studio is currently working on Homefront 2.

Now OXM (Official Xbox Magazine) sources have stated that Timesplitters 4 does exist as a playable build in some form or another.

“Trusted OXM sources have claimed that they’ve seen TimeSplitters 4 running. That’s no guarantee that it’ll be released – at least one version of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was cancelled without ever being announced – but it’s a promising sign.”

“If we do get a proper sequel, we’re likely to see the old games appear, too.”

Right now any Timesplitters news is good news, The franchise is more than deserving of a new lease of life on the more modern systems even if (for now) it is just the promise of a HD collection with on-line functionality. Who knows maybe there will be an E3 reveal as this generation is winding to a close publishers will want to pull out all the stops now that the current hardware is so easy to work with.
