Avoiding the obvious pun of ‘Things are looking up for John Carter’ isn’t easy – hence the title of the post. Sorry about that.

But hey – John Carter (of Mars) fans – here’s a new picture to cut out and keep – showing our hero in a hole, presumably on Mars. As new looks go it’s not exactly crawling with detail and spoilers but for those keeping an eye on Andrew Stanton’s film this should suffice until another trailer comes out.

The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, the ever wonderful Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church, and Willem Dafoe?.

Those gnashing their teeth in anticipation for a synopsis to the film need gnash no longer.

The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas? (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
