As August’s release date for Rise of the Planet of the Apes draws ever closer, we are getting more and more in the way of publicity material and so far, all of it is pretty strong. This time, we have a clip introduced by Andy Serkis, once again on ape perf-cap duties as Caesar. We then see a longer clip featuring some material already familiar to us from the trailers, showing Caesar making his escape and then sharing the brain-developing goodness with his fellow simians.

Although it is a short clip, the sense of atmosphere and danger is built very impressively and bodes well for the finished film, which seems to demonstrate a welcome melding of excitement and smarts. This may yet mark itself out as one of the more intelligent blockbusters of the silly season, though the field of competition does not run terribly deep in that respect.

All will be revealed in a few short weeks.

Dave Roper
Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
