Roadblock

The next instalment in the G.I. Joe franchise finally has a writer, with Jonathan Lemkin set to pen the third entry in the popular franchise. He recently wrote The Longest Night for Paramount and director Frank Marshall, and previous credits include Shooter, Devil’s Advocate and Lethal Weapon 4.

Jon Chu was at one point expected to return to direct after helming 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the extremely successful sequel which grossed over 0 million worldwide.

However, he’s currently not attached to the movie, but with Paramount and Skydance hoping to begin shooting next year, they’ll likely find someone soon as they’re aiming for a 2016 release.

Most of the cast are set to return, with Variety naming Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Adrianne Palicki as being set. However, the site goes on to add that G.I. Joe 3 will focus on The Rock’s character Roadblock, who was introduced in the last instalment and quickly became a fan favourite.

This makes a lot of sense, especially as The Rock has become a huge box office draw and was credited with making G.I. Joe: Retaliation a hit despite the fact that it was negatively received by critics.
