It’s been on the circuit for well over a year now, and finally, after much acclaim at several film festivals – Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale is making its way to UK cinemas. From the brilliant mind of The Babadook, this is an intense, harrowing piece of cinema that will linger long after the credits roll. To celebrate its release, we sat down with the leading star herself, Aisling Franciosi, as well as Sam Claflin, who plays a nasty piece of work in this twisted revenge-style production.
The duo discuss the obligation to be so delicate considering the themes being explored in the film, and how much trust they had in their director. They also speak about the importance in producers taking a gamble on young talent, given this marks the first major role in Franciosi’s cinematic career, as Claflin too reflects on his own beginnings in the industry.

Synopsis
Clare, a young Irish convict, chases a British officer through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness and is bent on revenge for a terrible act of violence the man committed against her family. On the way, she enlists the services of Aboriginal tracker Billy, who is marked by trauma from his own violence-filled past.
