The sands of Nevada briefly shimmered like the plains of Rohan as Warner Bros. brought Middle-earth magic to life during its CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas. Fans were treated to a major casting reveal for the upcoming fantasy epic, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,’ directed by and starring Andy Serkis.
Set to arrive in cinemas on December 17, 2027, the film promises a return to familiar shadows and whispers, with a story that slinks between the cracks of the original trilogy.
Several beloved faces are stepping back into Tolkien’s world, like old friends reappearing at the edge of a campfire: Andy Serkis as Gollum/Smeagol, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins and Lee Pace as Thranduil.

Their return stitches this new chapter directly into the fabric of Peter Jackson’s iconic saga, with Serkis once again embodying the tragic, fractured creature whose fate hangs by a thread of obsession.
Joining the franchise are fresh names ready to carve their own legends into Middle-earth lore: Kate Winslet as Marigol, Leo Woodall as Halvard and Jamie Dornan as Strider (the man who will become Aragorn).
The screenplay reunites key architects of the original trilogy, with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens returning, joined by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.
