The-Kings-of-Summer-PosterDebuting at Sundance this year to brilliant early reviews, The Kings of Summer will be heading into select US theatres at the end of the month.

The film, previously titled Toy’s House, has continued to pick up great reviews on the festival circuit since January – you can read our review from Sundance London. And after seeing its UK premiere last month, I highly recommend you seek it out in a few weeks’ time.

With its US release date just around the corner, CBS Films have debuted a great new featurette, teasing just a handful of the many hilarious moments from the film, and taking us behind the scenes.

Premiering to rave reviews at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, THE KINGS OF SUMMER is a unique coming-of-age comedy about three teenage friends — Joe (Nick Robinson), Patrick (Gabriel Basso) and the eccentric and unpredictable Biaggio (Moises Arias) – who, in the ultimate act of independence, decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Free from their parents’ rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact that family – whether it is the one you’re born into or the one you create — is something you can’t run away from.

Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, and Moises Arias are absolutely terrific as the young leading trio, with Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Megan Mullaly, Erin Moriarty, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Marc Evan Jackson all brilliantly completing the cast.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing from a script by Chris Galletta, both of whom are making their feature debuts as filmmakers.

The Kings of Summer will be released in the US on May 31st. No word as of yet on when it will be crossing the Atlantic, but I’m hoping a UK distributor will be giving it a theatrical release before the year’s end.
