The latest issue of Empire Magazine revolves around Suicide Squad, the upcoming DC Comics movie from director David Ayer which has an all-star cast featuring names like Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, and many more. The Comic-Con trailer was well-received back in July, and this latest look at the highly anticipated release is just as impressive.

The highlight has to be the new images of The Joker. Pictured on the cover in his very unusual and colourful get up, we also see the Clown Prince of Crime in Arkham Asylum!

“The Joker is the third rail of comic book movies,” Ayer explains in regards to what makes the villain so vital to Suicide Squad. “There’s a power to that character, and by some freaking miracle, through the incredible things Jared has done and the photography and all the other millions of things that went into it, we’ve cooked up something transcendent. He’s scary.”

Leto himself has a graphic way of describing his approach to The Joker, and confirmed that he remained in character for the entirety of Suicide Squad’s shoot. “There was definitely a period of…detachment. I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games.” He adds: “But at the same time it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick hole.”
