Lionsgate has released the surprise first teaser trailer and a set of debut images for ‘THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING,’ offering fans their initial glimpse at the return to Panem. Dropping exactly one year ahead of the film’s 2026 release, the studio’s unexpected early reveal sets the stage for a sweeping and harrowing new chapter in the blockbuster franchise.

The upcoming film revisits Panem decades before Katniss Everdeen’s rebellion, following a young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) twenty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games. The story opens on the morning of the reaping for the Fiftieth Hunger Games—better known as the Second Quarter Quell—an edition infamous for its brutal design and shocking outcome.

Francis Lawrence returns to the director’s chair, helming the adaptation from a screenplay by Billy Ray. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force are on board as producers, continuing their long-running stewardship of the franchise, while Cameron MacConomy serves as executive producer.

The cast includes Joseph Zada as Haymitch, alongside Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, McKenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr.
