Hitting cinemas at the end of the year, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will pick up where An Unexpected Journey left off, and we’re looking forward to diving back into the world of Bilbo and co.

The weekend brought with it an awesome first poster for the December blockbuster. And now Warner Bros. have released the first teaser trailer, set to be attached to Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel from Friday.

Martin Freeman is naturally back as the young Bilbo Baggins. And he’s joined by another stellar cast, starring alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, Ian Holm, and many more.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released in 3D on December 13th in the US and UK. The final instalment, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is set for release on December 17th, 2014, bringing to an end the second of Jackson’s Tolkien trilogies. With six months left on the clock, here’s the first teaser trailer to get you back in the mood for more Middle-earth.
