The Hate U Give, based on the book by Angie Thomas, premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. It stars Amandla Stenberg (Rue from The Hunger Games, Everything Everything), Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, Anthony Mackie, Issa Rae, Common, Algee Smith, Sabrina Carpenter, K. J. Apa, and Lamar Johnson. It is directed by George Tillman Jr.

At TIFF the cast, director and writer gathered to talk about adapting the film from the incredibly successful book. Stenberg has a great deal placed on her shoulders leading the film, and you get a real sense of how deeply felt the issues facing the characters are felt in real life. It’s an impressive watch.

The Hate U Give is released in the US on the 19th of October, 2018 and in the UK on the 26th of October.
