Stallone did it himself on the first film. Then he drafted in Simon West to take the chair for the sequel. And now it looks like Australian director Patrick Hughes is set to get the job for The Expendables 3.
Taking to Twitter yesterday, Stallone teased a number of clues as to the identity of the new director, before finally announcing that Hughes was his choice for the job, recommending the director’s feature debut, Red Hill.
Rent RED HILL. Great Movie!! 500,000 budget 20 day shoot, Amazing – ROCKY was 850,000 and 25 days , Good OMEN!!!
And also recommending his short film, Signs, which you can watch below.
Hey , Everyone should go look at Patrick Hughes short film on U-Tube It is called SIGNS . It will move you in a GOOD WAY. You will LOVE it!
Written and directed by Hughes, Red Hill is his sole feature credit to date, and it’s nice to see Stallone making good on his promise to bring new blood into the fold for the next film.
Hughes doesn’t quite have the job yet, and is set to fly in to meet with Millennium execs, THR report. But it looks like Stallone is giving him his full approval, which should be more than enough to warrant the job offer.
The film is set to feature much of the original cast, with Nicolas Cage and Wesley Snipes amongst the number of potential new additions to the line-up this time around.
The Expendables 3 is set to shoot later this summer, and if all goes well, then I’d say a Summer 2014 release date is looking likely.
