A brand-new initiative designed to make going to the cinema more affordable and accessible launches today in the UK. The Cinema Club, inspired by a long-running and hugely successful Danish scheme, invites film lovers to enjoy ten specially selected quality films each season—at half price.

Membership costs just £14.95 per season, with an early bird offer of £12.95 available to anyone who signs up before November 30th. Each year, a team of passionate cinema experts will handpick 10 of the best upcoming films for members to enjoy at 50% off the regular ticket price in participating cinemas nationwide.

The scheme is available at over 70 UK cinemas, stretching from Thurso in Scotland to Newquay in Cornwall. Members can check the full list of participating venues here: [The Cinema Club – Cinemas].

A Season of Great Cinema Begins

The first film in The Cinema Club’s line-up is The Choral, a moving new film from Alan Bennett and Nicholas Hytner, released on November 7th. Set in 1916 Yorkshire, the film stars Ralph Fiennes as a choirmaster who helps a small-town community rediscover the power of music amid the turmoil of World War I.

Following ‘The Choral,’ members can look forward to:

  • ‘Giant’ – an emotional drama about the relationship between iconic boxer Prince Naseem Hamed and his trainer Brendan Ingle, arriving January 9th.

  • ‘H is for Hawk’ – the much-anticipated adaptation of Helen Macdonald’s award-winning memoir, landing January 23rd.

  • ‘Mother’s Pride’ – a feel-good feature from the team behind Fisherman’s Friends, starring Martin Clunes, hitting cinemas February 27th.

The remaining six films in the season will be announced soon.

“A Club for People Who Love Cinema”

Julia Brown from ‘The Cinema Club’ says:

“We think the public will love The Cinema Club. We want to surprise and delight members with quality films—some that they’ll be looking forward to and some that they never knew they wanted to see. There are great films out there that sometimes don’t get the attention they deserve, and this scheme will make sure those titles are firmly on people’s radars.

Our goal is simple: to promote cinema-going and keep our much-loved local cinemas alive and kicking in towns and cities where they’re an important part of the community.”

Supporting Independent Cinemas

‘The Cinema Club’ was founded by three cinema industry professionals who wanted to support smaller cinema circuits and encourage audiences to explore a wider variety of films. The initiative is based on Cinema Club Denmark, which has successfully operated for more than 30 years.

Participating cinema circuits and venues include:

Showcase • Reel • Merlin • Scott • WTW • Arc • Savoy • Lockworks (Wolverhampton) • The Royal (Sutton Coldfield) • The Dome (Worthing) • Forest (Walthamstow) • The Island (Lytham) • The Majestic (King’s Lynn).
