The BBC has unveiled a chilling first trailer for ‘The Capture’ series three, marking the long-awaited return of Ben Chanan’s razor-sharp conspiracy thriller. The 20-second teaser aired immediately after the tense finale of ‘The Night Manager’ series two, and wastes no time plunging viewers back into a world where truth is fragile, and deception travels at the speed of light.

Framed around a haunting question — how do you protect the truth in a world where lies are daily currency? — The teaser sets the thematic tone for a season shaped by deepfakes, surveillance, and institutional paranoia. In an age where seeing is no longer believing, The Capture once again sharpens its focus on the dangerous gap between reality and perception.

It has been 12 months since Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger) shocked the nation by broadcasting a live deepfake of a government minister, exposing the UK intelligence service’s secret video manipulation programme known as Correction. Now, as an inquiry investigates the unlawful use of that technology, Carey has stepped into a powerful new role as Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism Command.

Determined to restore public trust, Carey champions Operation Veritas, a next-generation camera system designed to ensure transparency and accountability. But just as confidence begins to rebuild, catastrophe strikes. A brutal, meticulously coordinated act of terror hits the very heart of the British establishment, leaving behind a single, crucial witness — and a trail of questions no one wants answered.

As Carey digs deeper, her investigation spirals into a sprawling geopolitical crisis that seeps through the British political elite, the security services, and the media itself. The conspiracy runs deep, threading through the State like a hidden fault line. The question is no longer what is happening, but who is truly in control.

With violence escalating and allies growing scarce, Carey finds herself cornered. Trust becomes a luxury she can no longer afford, and the cost of uncovering the truth may be higher than ever. What sacrifices will she be willing to make when the system she serves turns opaque once more?

Created, written, and executive produced by BAFTA Award-winner Ben Chanan the teaser confirms the return of a formidable ensemble cast, including Paapa Essiedu as Isaac Turner MP, Indira Varma as Newsnight presenter Khadija Khan, Ben Miles as Danny Hart, Lia Williams as Gemma Garland, Ginny Holder as DI Nadia Latif, Nigel Lindsay as DSI Tom Kendricks, and Ron Perlman as Frank Napier.

Joining the series for season three are Killian Scott, Joe Dempsie, Andrew Buchan, Hugh Quarshie, and Amanda Drew, alongside returning cast members Tessa Wong (DC Chloe Tan), Daisy Waterstone (Abigail Carey), and Andy Nyman (Sir Rowan Gill).
