Rian Johnson’s second feature, The Brothers Bloom, could receive a June 4th theatrical release date in the UK. Johnson received a lot of critical praise for his first feature, Brick, and he followed this up with The Brothers Bloom, a film that focuses on a pair of con men brothers played by Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo. The film also features an excleent supporting cast including Rachel Weisz, Rinko Kikuchi, Robbie Coltrane and Ricky Jay, who provides a voiceover for the film.

The film is really enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone. Johnson is an excellent writer who has created absorbing worlds in his first two films and his skills as a director have resulted in really interesting and unique visions.

Despite playing at the London Film Festival in 2008 and receiving a limited US release date in the US in May 2009 the film has not yet received a UK release. Today though Rian Johnson confirmed to me on Twitter that there were plans for a UK theatrical release.

Although I’ve already seen the film, I will definitely be checking it out again when it hits UK theatres and I may even try listening along to Johnson’s downloadable commentary, which can be downloaded from here.
