The Book of Life helmer, Jorge Gutierrez, has signed up to direct another outing in the Warner Bros Lego series of movies, The Billion Brick Race.
The spin-off from the surprisingly successful franchise was originally being developed by Drew Pearce and Jason Segel from Pearce’s idea, as of yet, a plot line has yet to be released for the new film.
The next Lego movie in the franchise, The Lego Ninjago movie, will hit the big screen in October 2017 it calls to action young Lloyd (Dave Franco), aka the Green Ninja, along with his friends, who are all secret warriors and LEGO Master Builders. Led by kung fu master Wu as wisecracking as he is wise, they must defeat evil warlord Garmadon (Justin Theroux), the Worst Guy Ever, who also happens to be Lloyd’s dad. Pitting mech against mech and father against son, the epic showdown will test this fierce but undisciplined team of modern-day ninjas who must learn to check their egos and pull together to unleash their true power.
Gutierrez announced in June that work on a sequel, in which he will yet again be taking the helm, to the Golden Globe nominated animation, The Book of Life, had began after questions were raised regarding what happened to the characters after the first had ended. Most recently, Gutierrez also worked on Google’s animated short Son of Jaguar, about tradition and family mixed in with a bit of Mexican wrestling.
The Lego Movie sequel will follow Ninjago in February 2019.
