With Thor and Captain America both gaining significant momentum as we approach the summer season and their respective releases, The Avengers has taken a bit of a back seat. Aside from the full cast appearing on stage at Comic-Con and Joss Whedon announced as director, we had very little to go on, save the inevitability of it going before cameras fairly shortly to give enough time for what will surely be an extensive post-production schedule ahead of the summer 2012 release.
Given the almost absurd level of strength and muscularity on show among the principals (Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Hawkeye) it stands to reason that a fairly heavyweight foe would be required and so what we have is…..Loki, Thor’s half-brother.
Of course we have relatively little idea as to what sort of antagonist Loki will be for Thor, although the trailers suggest a Machiavellian approach rather than an out and out physical confrontation. What is interesting about this story is how Loki is believed to be going about evening up the odds when confronted with the Avengers rather than just Thor. The word is that he will use the Cosmic Cube (seen in glimpses in the Thor and Captain America trailers and screen shots) to bring the Skrulls to Earth, to go up against the Avengers.
All this is from Latino Review, quoting an “inside source”. Needless to say Marvel have said nothing, though it stands to reason that this sort of story element would be in place, given both the impending shoot on The Avengers and also the need to tie together the various Marvel films. I think what I’m saying is that although there’s no firm word yet, this seems to at least make sense as a story.
See the picture below for an idea of what the Skrulls look like. Please also let us have your comments on what you think of this, if it is indeed the real deal.
