Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis lead one of this year’s most intriguing prospects, Luc Besson’s The Lady, which tells the story of the Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi?, and there’s a new trailer out today in anticipation of the film’s premiere at Toronto on the 12th of September.
It’s a simple trailer with some very well chosen moments from an incredible and turbulent life, with the final shot in particular being very impressive, although it really needs to be seen on a bigger screen than this one to get the full impact.
Besson recently surprised me with The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec and while this film is tonally very different it will be something special to see the director take on such a powerful real life drama.

The story of Aung San Suu Kyi, the woman who is at the core of Burma’s democracy movement, and her husband, Michael Aris. Despite distance, long separations, and a dangerously hostile regime, their love endures until the very end.
