Black Bear has released the first trailer for ‘Christy,’ David Michôd’s powerful new drama based on the extraordinary true story of Christy Martin, one of boxing’s most trailblazing and controversial figures.

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5 and is set to make its UK debut as a Headline Gala at the 69th BFI London Film Festival on October 17. ‘Christy’ will then land in UK and Irish cinemas on November 28.

A Fighter’s Rise and Personal Battles

In ‘Christy,’ Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, Anyone But You) transforms into Christy Martin, a young woman from small-town West Virginia who discovers an unlikely path to glory through boxing. What begins as a raw and scrappy pursuit quickly evolves into a career that breaks barriers and puts her name in lights.

Under the management—and complicated relationship—of her trainer and husband Jim (Ben Foster), Christy becomes a headline-making sensation, famed for her ferocity in the ring and her fiery public persona. But behind the victories and bravado, her fiercest battles unfold at home. From clashes with family and the struggle for identity to a relationship that edges toward life-or-death stakes, Christy’s journey becomes one of resilience, survival, and ultimately, reclaiming her life.

A True Story of Courage

Directed by David Michôd (Animal Kingdom, The King), ‘Christy’ is a gripping portrait of determination and survival, shedding light on one of the most compelling figures in women’s sports history. The cast also features Katy O’Brian and Merritt Wever alongside Sweeney and Foster.

Packed with grit, heart, and a fight that transcends the ring, ‘Christy’ promises to deliver an emotional knockout when it hits cinemas this November.
