Despite the fact that a big chunk of Metropolis was destroyed in Man of Steel, its citizens are still clearly grateful that Superman saved them (and the world) as a statue of the iconic superhero is currently under construction in front of a green screen on the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice set.

Some fans have speculated that the statue is perhaps there in honour of the fallen Superman as he will die in this movie (in a loose adaptation of the “Death of Superman” story arc perhaps), but that seems very unlikely given the fact that this release reportedly leads into a Zack Snyder helmed Justice League feature!

Regardless, the statue was spotted in the Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac, not too far from where LexCorp is currently being constructed ahead of filming later this week. It’s actually expected that we will get a first look at Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor as a result!

Though some criticised the huge amount of destruction and casualties in the final battle between Superman and General Zod in Man of Steel, he did save the world, so a statue being built in his honour isn’t hard to believe. However, with Doomsday rumoured to appear, would they really kill off Clark Kent?

If so, don’t be surprised to see him return in time for Justice League!
